A North Knoxville eyesore has been transformed into a community asset, as a tour on Tuesday evening proved.
The Urban Land Institute hosted a tour of Oakwood Senior Living, a 1914-era elementary school that has been converted to an assisted living center.
The project is nearing final approval, and developer Rick Dover told the crowd that 21 of the 63 apartments have already been reserved. Dover praised the leadership of Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett in finding a private-sector solution for the dilapidated building, saying the mayor “gave it one last shot.”
