How will Charleston’s $450M port project affect East Tennessee?

A UT grad who leads one of the country’s busiest ports will speak at the Knoxville Chamber on Thursday.

Jim Newsome is a Savannah native who graduated from the University of Tennessee with an MBA in Transportation and Logistics. Since taking over leadership of the South Carolina Ports Authority, he has accomplished a significant turnaround in both volume and investment in the Charleston port, deepening the harbor and strengthening the infrastructure to be able to capitalize on the growth of global markets and increased shipping traffic to Gulf and Eastern ports.

Newsome will address how the increase in cargo movement through Charleston Harbor has wide ranging impacts, not just in South Carolina but also throughout the entire Southeast. The event begins at 7:30 a.m., and registration is available here.
